It is becoming more common to take music GCSE or A-level without much or any theoretical training before starting the syllabus. This can be quite overwhelming when you are thrown right in with a lot of technical terms, history, harmony amongst other things! This shouldn't put you of though, as we are here to help get you started so you feel confident that you know exactly what your teacher is talking about in the first lesson!
As well as our standard Grade 5 Theory courses, we offer prep days during the Summer holidays for teenagers who are about to start GCSE, A-level or even a Degree in music and want to get a headstart on the theory. We cover Composition, Structure, Harmony, Aural training and a little History. The prep days ensure you are going in to your new school year confident that you understand the basics in all areas of music needed for your course.
During the Easter break, we run revision days for GCSE and A-level. These focus on all the shared areas of the course, such as the listening paper.
If you need more personalised help, we also offer individual tuition throughout the year and especially in the spring leading up to the exams. This allows us to work on specific areas together, whether it is help with composition or understanding your set works better. We can arrange weekly lessons or an intensive course over the holidays if you prefer.
